Space Ship Leader, 1st Class K'eka Tes'ari was feeling very proud of himself indeed. The Sh'ari Serev Faction Military had only aquired a few secoundhand ships from the U.N., and he had been chosen to lead one. Admitdly it was a secound rate cast-off from the Humans, but a starship was a starship, and being trusted with one was a huge responsabilty especially when your government had so few of them. K'eka was responsible, very responsible, which was why He'd been chosen for the job and why, when an alien starship of unfarmilliar construction suddenly appeared before him, the first thing he did was summon the rest of the fleet.

When Shera awoke, she was lying on a soft, white bed in a small room. She opened her eyes briefly, then shut them again. She felt enormously tired and her whole body ached. She moaned and reached about, looking for her glasses.

"Shera? Are you awake?" She dimly heard Rahka's voice. She opened her eyes again, blinking against the overhead light. Rahka handed her her glasses, she put them on and everything came back into focus. Shera ducked as a series of pulse rounds slammed into the wall next to her. She stumbled and nearly dropped her backpack but managed to regain her feet. Both of her hearts pounded hard in her ears as she slipped around a corner and leaned against the wall, breathing heavily. She slid to one knee and shook the panic from her head.

She heard the tramp of her persuers' armored feet coming closer and gulped, her gills fluttering. Suddenly a hulking beast of a man burst into the street, a backpack identical to hers slung over one shoulder and two big pulse pistols clenched in his webbed hands.

The Multi-Purpose Assault Rifle Mark IX rifle is the bread and butter assault weapon of the CITC Militia. Based on designs produced by the Russian military in an attempt to modernize (an unsuccessful one, needless to say), the MPAR is made of stamped aluminum and cheap molded composites and uses a direct impingement gas system. Chambered for 75 rounds in the 8x40mm Russian loaded from a top-mounted helical drum, the MPAR was designed for massed fire and was ridiculed by US and UN Marines as only suitable for "spray 'n' pray" tactics. Prone to jamming thanks to it's Direct Impingement system, and lacking in power or accuracy compared to UN rifles like the ACT-99c or BEAR, the MPAR was never destined to be any more then a grunt's weapon. But then, it never needed to be.
